$8.75 Million Settlement for a Worker Seriously Injured After a Steel Beam Crushed His Leg at the World Trade Center Site in Manhattan

Supreme Court, Bronx County

Accident Description:

While performing demolition work at the World Trade Center construction site in Manhattan, our client was assigned to cut large structural steel beams that had been lowered to the ground by a crane. The beams were part of an active demolition operation and were placed atop construction debris prior to being cut and removed.

As our client stood next to one of the steel beams, preparing to begin his work, the beam suddenly shifted and tipped off the debris pile without warning. The beam fell onto his left leg, crushing it and knocking him backward to the ground, requiring heavy machinery to remove the beam.

Emergency medical services responded to the scene, and our client was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment of his severe injuries.

Injury Summary:

As a result of the demolition accident, our client suffered a severe crush injury to his left leg, including a complex tibial plateau fracture, along with injuries to his neck, back, left shoulder, right wrist, left knee, ankle, and foot. He required multiple surgeries over several years, including knee and shoulder surgeries, multilevel lumbar laminectomy, cervical spine fusion procedures, and extensive pain management treatment with injections.

Settlement Result:

We at Oresky & Associates, PLLC, secured an $8,750,000 settlement to address the long-term medical care, disability, and life-altering consequences of our client’s injuries.
