$10 Million Settlement for Two Plumbers Seriously Injured After a Floor Collapse During Renovation Work in the Bronx

Supreme Court, Bronx County

Accident Description:

Two plumbers were performing work inside a residential building in the Bronx, as part of an ongoing renovation project. The workers had been assigned to repair a leak and replace a bathtub inside a first-floor apartment.

While the workers were actively performing their job duties and standing on the bathroom floor, the structure beneath them suddenly gave way. Without warning, the floor collapsed, causing both workers to fall more than 20 feet through the opening and into the building’s basement below.

Emergency medical services responded to the scene, and both injured workers were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment of their injuries.

Injury Summary:

As a result of the fall, one of the workers suffered serious injuries to his neck, back, shoulder, hip, and knee, including fractures, torn ligaments, disc damage, and nerve involvement that caused ongoing pain and weakness. Despite extensive physical therapy, injections, and pain management, his condition worsened and required multiple major surgeries over several years. The procedures included repeated knee operations, shoulder surgery and revision, hip surgery, and ongoing spinal treatment. He continues to suffer from chronic pain, nerve damage, and mobility limitations, with doctors recommending additional spinal surgeries in the future.

The second worker suffered severe injuries to his neck, spine, shoulders, and ribs, including spinal fractures, multiple herniated discs, and significant nerve damage. Conservative treatment failed to relieve his pain, ultimately requiring shoulder surgery, cervical spine surgery with fusion, and years of ongoing pain management.

Settlement Result:

We at Oresky & Associates, PLLC, were able to secure a pre-trial settlement totaling $10,000,000 on behalf of both injured workers, providing significant financial security considering the life-altering injuries they suffered.
