$200,000 Settlement for Union Electrician Injured When an Electrical Panel Crushed His Foot at a Westchester County Construction Site
Supreme Court, Queens County
Accident Description:
Our client, a union apprentice electrician, was working at a construction site in a supermarket in Westchester County when he was seriously injured while assisting with the installation of a large electrical panel.
On the day of the incident, our client and a coworker were using a chain hoist to lift and position an electrical panel weighing over 1,000 pounds. As the panel was raised a short distance off the ground, it suddenly shifted, swung outward, and fell from the hoist. The panel struck our client’s right foot, crushing his big toe and knocking him backward to the ground.
The panel was not properly secured, and adequate safety devices were not provided to safely lift and guide the heavy load. Our client experienced increasing pain and swelling and was forced to leave the site to seek emergency medical treatment.
Injury Summary:
As a result of the accident, our client sustained a crush injury to his right foot, including displaced fractures of the right great toe. He was transported to the hospital the same day, where imaging confirmed the fractures, and he was treated with immobilization, a surgical shoe, and crutches.
Settlement Result:
We at Oresky & Associates, PLLC, obtained a $200,000 settlement for our client, holding the responsible parties accountable for the unsafe conditions that led to the injury.
