$6 Million Settlement for a Carpenter Injured After Falling from an Extension Ladder at a Manhattan Job Site

Supreme Court, Kings County

Accident Description:

Our client was working as a carpenter at a construction site in Manhattan, where window installation work was being performed on the upper floors of the building. To access a third-floor apartment from the exterior, he was instructed to use a 32-foot extension ladder that had been set up on top of a sidewalk bridge.

While standing on the ladder installing window molding, and with no safety harness, lifeline, or fall protection provided, the ladder suddenly shifted. He lost his balance and fell to the ground below. Coworkers immediately called for help, and he was transported by ambulance to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Injury Summary:

As a result of the ladder fall, our client suffered injuries affecting multiple parts of his body. He sustained severe facial fractures requiring reconstructive surgery, including injuries to his nose, cheekbone, and eye socket. He also suffered multiple fractures to his pelvis and right hip, as well as a shattered right femur that required emergency surgery with metal hardware placement. In addition, he injured his right hand and later developed serious knee and spine injuries that required further surgeries, including knee reconstruction and spinal fusion.

Settlement Result:

We at Oresky & Associates, PLLC, were able to secure a $6,000,000 settlement to address the extensive medical care, multiple surgeries, and long-term physical limitations caused by this devastating fall.
