$1.5 Million Settlement for a Worker Injured After Falling Through a Skylight in Manhattan
Supreme Court, Bronx County
Accident Description:
Our client was working at a high-rise construction project in Manhattan when he was instructed to remove plywood covering a skylight on an adjacent building. The plywood had been placed there during construction to protect the structure below. While removing the plywood, the skylight beneath it was exposed. As our client continued the task, the skylight gave way, causing him to fall through the opening and into the building below. The fall resulted in serious injuries and required emergency medical attention.
Injury Summary:
As a result of the fall through the skylight, our client suffered severe and permanent injuries. He sustained deep penetrating injuries to his right forearm that required multiple emergency surgeries, including muscle and tendon repairs, skin grafting, and reconstructive procedures. He also suffered serious neck and lower back injuries with disc herniations that caused ongoing nerve pain and required extensive pain management treatment, including multiple spinal injections. In addition, he injured both knees, resulting in torn cartilage that required arthroscopic surgeries on each knee.
Settlement Result:
We at Oresky & Associates, PLLC, secured a $1,500,000 settlement to hold the responsible parties accountable and to help address the serious injuries and long-term impact this accident had on our client’s life.
