How Long Do I Have to File a Lawsuit After an Accident in New York?

In most Bronx injury cases you have three years from the date of the accident. New York’s civil statute of limitations varies depending on the type of accident you suffered. For example:

• If you were hurt in a motor vehicle collision, you generally have three years from the crash’s date to file your lawsuit, per CPLR  214(4). There are exceptions.
